National Excellence in Arboriculture Award Winner 2004

This award winning treework project took place in West Point Foundry Preserve in Coldspring, NY. The historic excavation site required special methods, such as technical rigging to safely remove trees from the site.

High emphasis was also placed on environmental and natural products, such as green chainsaw oil, while working on this nature preserve.

Being in touch with the natural world is also healing and nurturing. Sharing the bounty of the earth with your family and friends are the moments you will remember the rest of your lives.

Garden greens such as lettuce and heirloom salads, spinach, kale, swiss chard, etc. are at their absolute best when freshly picked. Berry canes are summer-long producers. Perennial and annual flowers can also be grown side by side in enclosures to be cut for fresh arrangements and bouquets.

Perennial blooms and colorful bursts that come and go as the season progresses can greatly enhance existing landscape areas. Plantings of large shrubs and perennials added texture to this landscape and created pockets of calm and relaxation to a blank lawn.

Stone walkways were added to invite guests and owners into the pool area and also the various “oasis” spaces that were created.

An old retaining wall on one side of the owner’s pool had collapsed – we both straightened and strengthened it. It lined the pool area and the crumbling rock wall on the other sides of the pool were re-built with the existing stones with safety fencing and gates to bring the pool area up to code.

In this project the pool area was redone with massive retaining wall construction that provided level ground for expansive lawn and perennial plantings, with a custom arbor to the wooded lower land.

This poolside needed an accessible pathway, and the patio was designed for a table and chairs, outdoor fireplace and for performing Tai Chi. Stone wall and a brick walkway creates access for pool maintenance and was made from existing material that homeowner had already on site. We are happy to recycle materials and save resources.

The large stepping stone stairs lined with aromatic herbs and perennials lead up to a vegetable garden and woodchip pathways through the wooded areas of the property.

Here a summer estate is transformed into a relaxing oasis by the lake in Cortlandt, NY. The owner wanted a naturalized, established appearance vs. a traditional landscaping approach. We added natural rock and stone pathways, patios, and woodchip mulching and surrounded the space with native perennial plant choices.

Large planters, with the same natural theme, are situated by the whirlpool area together with berry bushes and strawberry patches. The backyard patio connects to woodchip pathways placed among flowering shrubs and colorful perennial woodland beds. Natural monolithic steps and a natural stone pathway are combined with an abundance of perennials. All these touches give the impression that the area has grown this way by itself.
